PTI Bloghop! - Transparencies

Well, I couldn't make up my mind about how to use transparencies for this project so I decided to do three projects to showcase some of the ways in which I use transparencies.

I use transparencies/acetate a lot in various types of cards and projects. Its a really great material to work with for a lot of different looks. Basically I use two types - the office supply store type (used in all the projects here) and the thicker kind you can buy at your LSS which is good for making card bases, album covers, etc. I recommend that you buy the write-on transparencies from the office store since they seem to be the easiest to work with. The printable kind have a textured side that I just don't like.

This first card is a really "literal" use of transparency. I've used it here to create a window overlooking a tree and sky image. The idea is that you are looking out a window in your home. The "window" is lifted off the page with foam adhesive to allow for the prima flowers underneath. The shutters and window pane are all made form 1/4" stips of cream coloured paper.

Supplies: Cardstock (Bazzill, PTI), Stamps (PTI - Out on a Limb), Ink (Palette), foam adhesive, Prima flowers, transparency

On this card I've created some texture and colour on my transparency by inking up a Cuttlebug embossing folder with red ink and running the transparency through the Cuttlebug machine. The ink leaves some areas coloured and some areas clear allowing the background paper to show through.

Supplies: Cardstock (Bazzil, SU!, PTI), Stamps (PTI - Punny Valentine), Ink (Palette), Nestabilities, ribbon (Making Memories, Michaels), brads, transparency

Here's a non-card project using transparencies. I love to make little boxes for small gifts and treats and then use the transparency to create a see-
through window. It keeps everything inside while allowing the recipient to have a "sneak peak" at the contents. On this box (2,5,7,10 box), the transparency on the front window has had a few bands of black glitter applied with double sided adhesive. The Tag at the top is also made from a transparency that has been stamped with the label stamp and then sandwiched between two nestabilities with the centres cut out.

Supplies: Paper (SU!, Bazzill), Stamps (PTI -Spooky Sweets), Nestabilities, transparencies, Ink (Palette), labels (PTI), ribbon, eyelets
